Simone Biles is poised to rewrite history at the Paris Olympic Games. Already her incredible athleticism has earned her numerous honors - such as being named World Sportswoman of the Year by Laureus World Sportswomen of the Year Award, Forbes 30 Under 30 list, Ebony Power 100 list, Peoples Women Changing the World list as well as being recognized with NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Female Athlete award as well as becoming an Ambassador of Friends of the Children.
Biles recently married football safety Jonathan Owens and is also the first American woman ever to win five Olympic gold medals in gymnastics. On Thursday she could add to her haul of 39 world and Olympic medals by winning gold in all-around competition, vault, balance beam, floor exercise as well as uneven bars final - her traditional weak event where she placed ninth during qualifying rounds.
Gymnast was both the youngest and fastest American to earn gold in 2021's all-around competition, finishing her routine off with an astonishing Yurchenko double pike that she created specifically for this competition - shattering previous records established since 1990 for athletes landing this move.
At the 2014 World Championships of artistic gymnastics, she made history. Securing first place finishes in all-around, floor exercise and balance beam events; becoming the first woman since 1993 to successfully defend their all-around title and garnering widespread acclaim for her achievements in gymnastics.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no major events were held in 2020; however Biles began the 2021 season strong by winning both AT&T American Cup and City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. She went on to claim all-around victory at U.S. Classic as well as defend her national titles for all-around, vault and floor exercise respectively.
At the Olympic trials, she finished first in all-around and earned a spot on Paris team that will compete. Her goal is to surpass her total from London Games by earning five medals; four are golds; she may also chase individual vault, balance beam and floor exercise gold medals as she qualified third at each event during trials; an Olympic competition will begin August 25.
