More about George Strait
George Strait is an American singer, songwriter, actor and music producer. Known as being a star in country music, he’s considered to be one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time.
George Strait’s interest in music first began when he attended Pearsall High School. There, he played in a rock and roll garage band. Enjoying the Beatles, especially, George Strait also liked to listen to country music. Singers such as Hank Thompson, Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard, George Jones, and others all influenced his musical style.
In the spring of 1981, Strait released his first single for MCA Records, called “Unwound.” This climbed up to number three on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the year, and was also included on his debut album, Strait Country. There were also two other hit singles on the album, including “Down and Out” and “If You’re Thinking You Want A Stranger (There’s One Coming Home),” which reached number three early in 1982.
After that, George Strait recorded 17 subsequent No. 1’s in the decade, including a string of five that lasted from 1983 to 1984. Strait then recorded two more albums called Right or Wrong and Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, which became a CMA award winner.
In more recent years, Strait has released Honkytonkville, which is a fiery set of hard country, and mixes “old Strait” with his modern, superstar self. And in 2004, his appearance at Reliant Stadium in Houston set a new Rodeo attendance record with 68,679 spectators.
In 2012, Strait announced that he would be retiring from touring, and that his Cowboy Rides Away Tour would be his last. Tickets for arenas and stadiums on the tour sold out in a matter of hours. The tour itself started in Lubbock, Texas and included 21 concerts in 2013 and 26 concerts in 2014.
