More Information about the Desert Trip Festival
In terms of attendance and ticket sales, tours for classic rock acts continue to be some of the most successful. Whether or not an artist releases a new album, fans come out to see their favorite, long-standing performer every time he or she hits the road.
While many festivals focus on the current crop of high-charting artists across pop, hip-hop, dance, and rock, the Desert Trip Festival has gone back to rock ‘n’ roll’s heyday. Now expanded to two weekends because of demand, Desert Trip Festival features some of the biggest names in classic rock.
Dubbed the “classic rock” Coachella, Desert Trip is being held on the same grounds, the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. Yet, unlike today’s typical music festivals, the shows begin after sunset and will feature full sets – not just hour-long appearances – from all artists on the bill.
Once promoters announced the initial lineup, tickets sold out quickly. To accommodate more fans, the festival added a second weekend, with the same group of performers. Both weekends, October 7th through the 9th and October 14th through the 16th, will feature the following:
- Friday: The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan and his Band
- Saturday: Paul McCartney and Neil Young + The Promise Of The Real
- Sunday: Roger Waters and The Who
Desert Trip marks the first time all six Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductees have shared a bill together, and the first occasion Dylan and McCartney are in the same lineup. Additionally, the festival serves as the end of Roger Waters’ The Wall World Tour, itself a record-breaking trek.
Promoted by Goldenvoice/AEG Live, Desert Trip is anticipated to be one of the biggest music festivals of all time. Even before the event has started, it has grossed about $160 million.
In addition to the music, Desert Trip is expected to feature food from 40 of the country’s top restaurants.
