Kiss

KISS in concert at Hellfest in 2013With their chunky riffs and high-octane vocals, KISS could have become a very rock band upon forming in 1970s New York City. Instead, they combined their classic rock chops with comic book personas (Starchild! Demon! Spaceman! Cat!), face paint, and elaborate live shows involving fire breathing, pyrotechnics, rockets, levitating states, and more to create hard rock’s first true experience.

There’s no denying that the KISS experience is as much about a total sensory experience than just music – which is why any good fan needs to see them live unless they want to be court-martialed from the KISS Army. About KISS

Since 1972 KISS has released over a dozen albums and embarked on over 20 concert tours, but what KISS might be best known for is their relentless capitalist drive to create a living KISS brand, with comics books, movies, and merchandise that would make Coca-Cola blush. (Some of the strangest KISS merch through the years has included KISS condoms, a KISS-branded casket, “KISS Him” cologne, bowling balls, checkers sets, and more too numerous to recount.)

Original members included Paul Stanley (Starchild), Gene Simmons (Demon), Ace Frehly (Spaceman), and Peter Criss (Catman). In later years Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer would step in as the Spaceman and Catman, respectively, while Eric Carr donned the makeup of The Fox guitarist Vinnie Vincent assumed the character of the Ankh Warrior.

Their most popular songs include “Detroit Rock City,” “Shout It Out Loud,” “Love Gun,” “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Lick It Up,” “Strutter,” and the ballad “Beth.”
