More about Eric Clapton
English rock and blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist Eric Clapton is planning a brief tour in March 2017. He has two dates scheduled at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 19 and 20 and two concerts at the Forum in Los Angeles on March 25 and 26. The tour will also include two concerts at Royal Albert Hall in London in May.
Clapton will perform with keyboardists Walt Richmond and Chris Stainton, drummer Steve Gadd, bassist Nathan East, and vocalists Sharon White and Michelle John. He will also be joined by two special guests, blues musicians Gary Clark, Jr. and Jimmie Vaughan.
Clapton Has Not Given up Touring Yet
Clapton has said in the past that he wanted to stop touring. He wrote in the program for his series of 70th birthday shows in 2015 that he was through, but he did not want to stop because of his love for music.
Clapton has struggled with some health issues that have affected his ability to perform. He has back problems and a neurological condition that affects his hands. He said the love of his family has made him feel that he can finally rest and relax when necessary.
Clapton is known for his music that fuses rock, blues, and other genres such as reggae. Some of his most famous recordings include his cover of Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff;” “Layla,” which was recorded with Derek and the Dominos; and Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads,” which was recorded with Cream. He wrote “Tears in Heaven” after the death of his son Conor in 1991.
Awards and Recognition
Eric Clapton is the only person to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. He was inducted as a solo artist and with the bands the Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton released his 23rd album, I Still Do, in May 2016. He is one of the most influential guitarists of all time and is on several lists of the best guitar players in the world. Clapton has won 18 Grammy Awards, a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and a CBE for service to music at Buckingham Palace in 2004.
