More Information about Eric Church

One of the hottest country music talents over the past decade, singer/songwriter Eric Church dropped a surprise album, Mr. Misunderstood, at the end of 2015. As the release has achieved both mainstream and country success, Church has gone on the road in support with his Holdin’ My Own Tour, scheduled to run through 2017.

Born Kenneth Eric Church, the country singer picked up guitar on his own and eventually started getting gigs in local bars. While he eventually earned a degree from Appalachian State University, he put aside a corporate career to pursue music in Nashville.

After he moved to the country music capital, Capitol Nashville signed him, and since 2005, he put out five studio albums through the label, with the first being 2006’s Sinners Like Me. Hinting early at a successful career, the release resulted in three Billboard Country Top 20 hits, including "How 'Bout You," "Two Pink Lines," and "Guys Like Me."

Three years later, Church followed it up with Carolina, proving to be even more successful. This release spawned his first country top 10 hits, including "Love Your Love the Most" and "Hell on the Heart." Eventually, by 2011, he netted a No. 1 country album, Chief, which also gave him two No. 1 hits, "Drink in My Hand" and "Springsteen."

Then, The Outsiders came in 2014. With a high amount of airplay, it featured "Give Me Back My Hometown," "Cold One," "Talladega," and "Like a Wrecking Ball" as singles.

Knowing that collaborating with other big names in country could yield another major hit, Church recorded “The Only Way I Know” with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan between Chief and The Outsiders, going to No. 1 on the Billboard Country singles chart. Then, after The Outsiders, he worked with Keith Urban on “Raise ‘Em Up.”

Surprising fans, Mr. Misunderstood dropped in November 2015 without any promotion. But, the approach worked: The release debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart and eventually peaked at No. 2. Further, it generated three successful singles, the title track, “Record Year,” and “Kill a Word.”

Fans and critics also thought highly of the release. In response, Mr. Misunderstood was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2015 ACM Awards, while its title track was nominated for Video of the Year.
